Certification

SAP certification is an umbrella term for several SAP-run validation and endorsement programs that test third-party software, infrastructure and services for use with SAP products. These programs range from technical interoperability testing by the SAP Integration and Certification Center (SAP ICC) to partner and solution validations under SAP’s PartnerEdge framework. They also extend to invitation-only, premium endorsements — for example, the SAP Endorsed App Premium certified designation. SAP also performs infrastructure and hosting validations and offers managed-service qualifications, such as via SAP Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) for RISE with SAP, to confirm that hosting and operational models meet SAP requirements for running SAP workloads.

Together, these validations verify that a product or service meets SAP’s technical, security and performance standards, integrates correctly with SAP APIs and landscapes, and — for higher-level tracks — is aligned with SAP’s roadmap and operational best practices. For customers, certification reduces integration and compatibility risk, simplifies procurement and speeds adoption and migration, helping support clean core and cloud transformation initiatives. For partners, certification provides clear market differentiation, signals trust and long-term alignment with SAP and can enable commercial and go-to-market benefits, such as inclusion in SAP reference architectures and ECS managed-service offerings.

Note: Scope and rigor vary by track. An ICC SAP-certified test typically confirms technical interoperability, while an Endorsed App Premium certification involves deeper security, performance and roadmap alignment checks. Infrastructure and hosting validations assess the readiness of the cloud or managed-service environment to run SAP workloads.

Most common SAP certifications for workload automation providers

SAP offers certification tracks that validate interoperability, security and readiness across its ecosystem, many of which can be awarded to solutions for workload automation (WLA). Each signals a different assurance level.

SAP Integration and Certification Center (ICC) solution certification

ICC is the baseline technical validation for any product integrating with SAP. Tests confirm a partner product can technically connect to and interoperate with specific SAP products or APIs and that it behaves correctly in SAP business flows.

Why it matters for WLA: ICC testing demonstrates that your scheduler and connectors work with target SAP systems — for example, S/4HANA, Integration Suite and Datasphere. This certification reduces integration risk and eases procurement.

SAP Endorsed App Premium certification (invitation-only, higher assurance)

An invitation-only, premium-level validation that goes beyond basic ICC testing. It includes deeper security and performance testing, evidence of customer adoption and alignment/co-innovation with SAP product roadmaps. Passing this track can lead to a formal Endorsed App Premium certified designation.

Why it matters for WLA: This is the highest partner validation for complementary partner products. For WLA vendors, it signals SAP-level trust (security, scalability and roadmap fit), often enables tighter go-to-market cooperation and can allow inclusion in SAP reference architectures and managed-service offers.

RunMyJobs by Redwood is an example of a WLA product that achieved this route.

Application security/architecture assessments (ASA and related tests)

Security and architecture reviews that SAP (or SAP’s programs) require as part of premium validations — e.g., Veracode vulnerability scans, penetration testing, cloud-architecture verification and data privacy/compliance checks. These are often built into higher-level certifications.

Why it matters for WLA: Workload automation tools run critical processes and handle sensitive data; passing SAP’s security/architecture assessments is required to demonstrate a safe, production-grade solution.

PartnerEdge competencies, recognitions and program status (Silver, Gold, Platinum, SAP Recognized Expertise)

Program-level qualifications under SAP PartnerEdge that validate a partner’s skills, staffing, delivery capability and commercial alignment (rather than a single-product technical test). Examples include competency badges, SAP Recognized Expertise and the tiered partner levels (Silver/Gold/Platinum).

Why it matters for WLA: Being Gold or Platinum (and holding the right competencies) demonstrates that the given company has proven delivery experience, references and a sustained SAP relationship. This is important when customers choose an enterprise WLA vendor and pursue co-sell or managed-service partnerships with SAP.

Hosting/infrastructure certifications (IaaS, PaaS, HANA, S/4HANA readiness)

SAP validates cloud and hosting platforms (IaaS/PaaS) for suitability to run SAP workloads — covering performance, availability, operations and HANA or S/4HANA technical requirements.

Why it matters for WLA: If a WLA product is delivered or operated as part of an SAP-managed or customer-hosted landscape — or if you rely on an IaaS/PaaS for agent/secure-gateway deployment — customers and SAP want assurance that the underlying platform meets SAP’s operational and HANA or S/4HANA requirements. SAP also formalizes managed-service offerings (e.g., ECS) that deploy and run partner components inside or connected to RISE with SAP landscapes.

Managed-service/Cloud Application Service validations (ECS / RISE inclusion)

Unlike with a single certificate like ICC, SAP evaluates and documents managed-service models that deploy partner components and provide operational service-level agreements (SLAs). For example, SAP Enterprise Cloud Services offerings for RISE with SAP. Inclusion in the RISE reference architecture or ECS managed-service catalog is an important commercial/operational validation.

Why it matters for WLA: For workload automation vendors, being supported by ECS/RISE managed services (or being referenced in the RISE architecture) makes adoption less risky for RISE customers, as it means SAP’s operations teams know how (and have tested how) to deploy, monitor and support secure gateway/agents and jobs.

Why choose an SAP PartnerEdge-aligned workload automation solution?

SAP PartnerEdge is SAP’s foundational program for vendors that build, integrate, resell or service SAP technologies, including WLA solutions.

What PartnerEdge provides

  • Access to SAP training, integration guidelines and development resources
  • APIs, toolkits and support for building extensions on platforms like Business Technology Platform (BTP)
  • Baseline alignment with SAP’s integration, security and interoperability requirements
  • Eligibility to sell, implement or develop SAP-aligned solutions

What PartnerEdge signals to customers

  • The vendor is officially recognized by SAP
  • The solution meets SAP’s minimum technical and security guardrails and follows SAP’s approved integration rules and architecture patterns
  • The investment is lower risk compared to non-partner tools, but not as low as with those in an exclusive certification tier, such as Endorsed App
