Business challenges

One of Australia’s largest energy providers was using SAP BPA by Redwood (hereafter referred to as “BPA”), a solution built directly into the on-premises versions of SAP ERP, to manage its SAP meter-to-cash (M2C) process. M2C is a core function for the business, critical for maintaining uninterrupted revenue flow, ensuring regulatory compliance and safeguarding overall business continuity.

An SAP Technical Analyst responsible for the company’s SAP process integration and security explains, “It was a business-critical system. We ran all our daily jobs through it, and we knew that if it went wrong, it would go very wrong.”

In addition to M2C, the company used BPA to automate some jobs related to HR, materials management, business intelligence, purchase orders, dunning, billing and more. As SAP transitioned its ERP platform to the cloud and Redwood Software strengthened its role as SAP’s preferred workload automation provider by launching RunMyJobs as a successor to BPA, SAP discontinued BPA support at the end of 2024. The company’s IT team faced a critical decision. They needed a new SAP-compatible workload automation solution that would ensure uninterrupted operation of these processes.

Having personally worked with Redwood since 2015, the analyst was confident that staying within the Redwood ecosystem would minimize disruption, especially as the company prepared for the future migration of its ERP to the cloud via RISE with SAP with S/4HANA Cloud.

“BPA has been good to us. It’s been a very stable platform,” he says. “We did a comparative analysis with a few other products, but we stuck with Redwood because BPA has run every night for the last nine years — We saw no reason to jump ship.”

Solution

The transition to RunMyJobs was remarkably smooth, thanks to what he describes as “strong, patient, thorough” consulting from the Redwood team. The migration followed a clearly defined path with a target go-live date, and the project proceeded without delay.

Because of RunMyJobs’ robust features, the team didn’t have to learn new skills to move their BPA workloads to the modern platform built to align with future SAP solution innovations and a hybrid cloud tech stack.

We were impressed with the seamless transition. It was a very high-profile project, but if it hadn’t been internally announced, nobody would have noticed [the migration]. It was so easy that it’s almost like it never happened.” SAP Technical Analyst

Results

By migrating to RunMyJobs, the company successfully preserved 100% of its previous job and SLA performance — a significant achievement that underscores the solution’s ability to support the mission-critical M2C process for a utility provider.

This result reinforced the decision to remain with Redwood, validating the team’s trust in RunMyJobs as an essential solution for SAP workload automation.

The future with Redwood

Looking ahead, they’re eager to implement additional features of RunMyJobs to further enhance operations. One key area of focus is the platform’s promotion management capabilities, which would allow them to synchronize systems more effectively and eliminate the need for manual updates across environments.

They’re also exploring RunMyJobs’ out-of-the-box connectors for the latest SAP BTP solutions, including Datasphere and Integration Suite, to streamline data management pipelines and integrate with popular cloud platforms like Salesforce, Databricks and more.

With RunMyJobs, this trusted utility company is well-positioned to maintain workload stability while exploring new opportunities to optimize and modernize its automation strategy.
